An FTP client is an application that will allow you to connect to an FTP server and transfer files from and to the server.
While it is true that FTP clients come in all shapes and sizes, most of them are based on the file browser available in all systems. The system will show the folders and files in both the local computer and the server, and you will be able to copy, move or delete files in both the machines.
