Server inaccessible
From Amen Wiki
In the event of a problem occurring with the server which stops the server from responding all together, please follow the steps below as the first course of action:
- Login to your customer area at: http://client.amenworld.com
- Click on
and select your Dedicated Server from the list shown.
- Click ‘Re-boot your server’, this is located on the right hand side of the screen.
- Select ‘Standard reboot (shutdown)’ and click the ‘Reboot’ button.
- Please note it can takes up to 30 minutes for the Server to reboot and have all the services to restart.
- If after 30 minutes the Server still does not respond to for example, a ping test etc, then you can select ‘Hardware reboot (hard reset)’ and click the ‘Reboot’ button, this will power cycle the machine via the APC.
WARNING : The hardware reboot shouldn't be used unless standard reboot is unsuccessful. This type of reboot actually restarts the system by unplugging the server cable and plugging it in back on again. This 'violent' action might cause damage to the hard disk (though risk is limited).
Note this can again take up to 30 minutes for the hard reboot process.
In most cases this resolves the issue and the Server does come back online and is available to use.
If the above steps fail to resurrect the Server, there is a third option, this is to put the server into ‘Recovery Mode’.
[edit] Recovery Mode
This allows you SSH access to our Recovery server but via the IP Address of your Dedicated Server, so that you can connect to your server even when it is down and investigate further with the use of linux commands via the command line. For more about 'Recovery Mode', click here
